Lauded by Cleveland Classical as "an excellent soloist, a compelling performer who is equally comfortable handling long strings of notes and singing through emotive melodies with her instrument," Qin Ying Tan is one of Singapore's foremost harpsichordists and was recently appointed harpsichord faculty at the Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music. Performances in recent seasons include appearances with Red Dot Baroque, Apollo's Fire, Piano Cleveland, City Music, ORMACO Inc., the Performing Arts Series at the Cleveland Museum of Art, and SEA Music Academy. Qin Ying also co-directs the emerging period Affekt together with baroque violinist, Guillermo Salas-Suarez, which focuses on early music accessibility, education and diversity across Cleveland. Upcoming performances this season include solo and ensemble recitals in Seattle, Bach Festival at Baldwin-Wallace, Notre Dame College, and City Music.
A firm believer of story-telling through music, Qin Ying draws from a diverse pool of influences such as baroque French court dance, Indonesian gamelan music, Chinese guzheng practice, as well as community song and
dance. Dr. Tan currently serves as music director at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church in Cleveland Heights and also co-directs the Resonance Masters' Series near Seattle. She frequently lectures on Baroque dance and early music and has also conducted workshops in Peabody Institute of Music, Hugh A Glauser School of Music, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and SEA Music Academy Online.
When not at work, Qin Ying loves exploring and hiking around beautiful Cleveland with her dachshund rescue, Jax. She also enjoys conversations on ways music can help to inspire change and bring communities together.
